Rackets and Net

FAQs

Check out our FAQs for our junior and adult tennis classes and private lessons.

  • What racquet size is right for my child?
Children need a tennis racquet which is the right size for their height. Here is a guide: You don't need to buy your child an expensive tennis racquet when they are learning to play tennis! If your child does not have a racquet we can loan one for the first lesson and give advice about the size to buy. The racquet length determines the right size for your child based on their height (see above)
  • What should my child bring to class?
No need to bring tennis balls! Here is a handy list: Players must wear suitable athletic clothes with laced up footwear. Hat, towel, sunglasses & sunscreen in the summer and warm layers in colder weather. Plenty of water – for juniors ensure your child’s name is clearly written on the water bottle.
  • What is the coach to student ratio?
We have one coach for every six students. For makeup classes we sometimes have a 1:8 ratio, but will not exceed that. We want to ensure that our players get lots of court time and fun instruction!
  • Weather Cancellations
In the event of adverse weather, we will email and cancel a class and post a message on our Facebook page. Depending on the weather issue (rain, high winds, too cold) we will give as much advance notice as possible, however, unexpected changes in the weather mean last-minute cancellations do happen! If it has rained earlier in the day, we are usually able to dry the courts so unless players receive an email, CLASS IS ON! Friday and Sundays are our makeup class days. We will email the date and time and will require a reply with the player’s name and whether they can attend. We will assume the player is not attending if we do not receive a reply and they will be considered absent from the makeup class. The weather makeup class may not take place the same week as the canceled scheduled class due to scheduling issues. The weather makeup class will be offered as soon as possible and will take place during the session the player is enrolled on. If a player cannot attend a rescheduled class for a weather cancellation, we cannot offer an alternative date. Click here to like our Facebook page for the latest class cancellation updates.
  • Do you prorate the session?
Yes, our sessions are automatically prorated on our website. If an eight-week session has started and there is still availability, then please go ahead and book online and you will only pay for the remaining weeks of the session Click otltennis.com to book classes online
  • What is the policy if my child misses a class?
When booking one of our 8-week scheduled classes, you are signing up for your child to attend the same class each week. All our classes are full, so makeup spots are very limited. We do not have the capacity for players to miss a class and simply turn up to another class. We cannot offer refunds or guarantee a makeup class if a player misses one of their scheduled classes but we may be able to offer the opportunity to attend other classes if we have availability. This is very limited due to our small class sizes. We will only consider a request for a maximum of ONE makeup class per session and the player must email coach@otltennis.com at least 2 days in advance of the player’s scheduled class and provide the following details: Name of player, class enrolled on & date player will be absent. When available, a makeup class will be offered for the same level class and must be taken during the session the player is enrolled on. If the player cannot make the date offered, we will be unable to offer more dates. We cannot accept retrospective requests. There is considerable administration time dealing with requests and there is no guarantee a makeup spot will be available, but we will try our best.
  • What are our COVID 19 safety protocols?
The tables and chairs by the courts are reserved for the players and coaches only. Parents must bring their own chairs if you wish to stay and spectate. No eating inside the fenced court area next to the courts. We emphasise staying safely socially distanced when waiting to get on the court. Junior players must have their names on their water bottles. Junior and adult players must place their bags in the designated areas and not on the chairs. Hand sanitizer will be provided at the courts and will be used after collecting the balls. A mask is not compulsory but players are free to wear them whenever they wish. **If any junior or adult player or a member of their family has been exposed to someone with COVID, or a player feels unwell, please do not attend class until a negative COVID test result is confirmed. ** We follow the USTA COVID rules, click here for the USTA guidelines
